Our Family

Basically my husband is crazy...  He is a dreamer and a big picture person, where as I get concerned with the 'when' and the 'how much'.  We are an average married couple, with two young kids, who are trying to build their dream home in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.  Neither of us have any construction or design experience, so please join us as we navigate through the uncharted waters of building a two storey passive house in Victoria.

We are lucky enough to already live in our own house in the leafy suburb of Ferntree Gully, but have always wanted to move closer to the city for work and family reasons.  Adam's family being in real estate, he is always on the look out for a bargain in the housing market. When a property in Ringwood came up, he and his Dad were able to snap it up; that was in 2013.

Fast forward through multiple meetings with architects, draftsmen, engineers, town planners, Maroondah Council, VCAT, the neighbours, and now we come to this.  Finally, five years later we have broken ground and are commencing build on a double storey passive house in Victoria.

This blog is more of a way for us to document the story of our house than anything else.  If we can help or inspire you along the way then that's an added bonus!  My style of writing is more journal-like than a step-by-step guide, but if you have questions about specific items feel free to ask and Adam will be able to provide more detail.
